Bandar Lampung Food and Drug Control Center Gives Guest Lecture for the Food Regulation and Safety Course at ITERA

On Wednesday (30/11/2022), a guest lecture for the food regulation and safety course was held, given by Drs. Zamroni, Apt, Acting Head of the Food and Drug Control Center (BBPOM) of Bandar Lampung City. This guest lecture is part of the food regulation and safety course curriculum, attended by semester 5 students of the ITERA Food Technology Study Program. This guest lecture had the theme of food safety regulations in Indonesia.

This guest lecture was a good opportunity for students who had visited food-sector micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Bandar Lampung City. The MSME mentoring activities carried out by students include evaluating good processed food production practices (CPPOB), preparing sanitation standard operation procedures (SSOP) and preparing Hazard analytical critical control point (HACCP) recommendations for the MSMEs. This year, ITERA food technology students mentored 18 MSMEs. This activity has been running for its third year since it was first held in 2020. In total, more than 50 MSMEs have been mentored by students.

“This activity is very positive for Food Technology Study Program students to get to know and implement food safety regulations in Indonesia, so that when students graduate they can apply food safety regulations properly, whether as business actors or professional workers in industry,” said Zamroni.

According to Ilham Marvie, the person in charge of the food regulation and safety course, “This activity is a valuable opportunity for students to ask BBPOM directly and learn about the implementation of food safety regulations in Indonesia.” At the end of this semester, students will present the results of their MSME visits, which will then be delivered to the MSMEs as improvement suggestions. This routine activity is expected to be one of the concrete contributions of ITERA Food Technology Study Program students to educating MSMEs in Bandar Lampung city. (ILM)
