Kalianda, South Lampung — Coastal resource utilization continues to be encouraged through Community Service (PkM) activities carried out by Food Technology Study Program lecturers at Institut Teknologi Sumatera (Itera) on Saturday, April 25, 2026 in Agom Village, Kalianda District, South Lampung.
This activity targets the Women Farmer Group (KWT) Way Agom with a focus on improving the skills of sea grape (Caulerpa sp.) processing into added-value food products. The training was officially opened by Dina Fithriyani, S.T.P., M.Si., and was welcomed by the local village head.
In its implementation, participants were guided directly to process sea grapes into various innovative products, such as sticks and dodol. All stages were carried out practically, starting from raw material processing to simple hygienic and attractive packaging techniques.
This activity is part of a community empowerment program that integrates cultivation and utilization of sea grapes as a leading coastal commodity in Lampung. Through this approach, the community is not only introduced to production techniques but is also encouraged to develop potential for business based on local resources.
The accompanying lecturer, Zada Agna Talitha, said that product innovation is one of the strategic steps in increasing the economic value of sea grapes. “Hopefully this innovation can be useful and become one source of income for the community, especially the Way Agom Women Farmer Group,” she added.
A positive response came from the training participants. So far, sea grapes are generally only consumed as a side dish without further processing. Through this activity, participants gained new insights regarding the potential for developing processed products that have higher selling value.
Sea grapes (Caulerpa sp.) are known to have good nutritional content and quite broad market opportunities. However, limited processing knowledge is one of the obstacles in optimally utilizing them at the community level. Therefore, it is hoped that this training would be an initial step in increasing the added value of the commodity and strengthening the coastal community economy.
Going forward, this program will be continued with assistance activities to ensure sustainable production and development of sea grape-based businesses at the community group level.
