In the even semester of the 2021/2022 academic year, eight students of the Food Technology Study Program at Sumatra Institute of Technology (ITERA) took part in certified internships in industry. The participating students consist of five interns at PT. Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) Indonesia, one at PT. Great Giant Food (GGF), one at the National Agency of Drug and Food Control (BPOM) Jakarta, and one at the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia. The internship will last six months and is converted into 20 credits.
The internship at PT LDC Indonesia is the result of a follow-up to the cooperation between the ITERA Food Technology Study Program, covering cooperation in education, research, and community service. Work experience at such a multinational company will be extremely valuable. In addition to applying what they learned in lectures, the interns will be given responsibilities and facilities like permanent employees of PT. LDC Indonesia. Students also have the opportunity to enter the employee recruitment process if their performance during the internship is good.
The certified internships at PT GGF, BPOM, and the Ministry of Trade reflect the students’ success in the selection for the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) internship program, which is open to all students in Indonesia. They passed various selection stages and met the competencies expected by industry.
The coordinator of the ITERA Food Technology Study Program, Amalia Wahyuningtyas, S.Si, M.Sc, said, “The success of these eight ITERA Food Technology Study Program students is a positive result of collaboration between the study program and industry in developing a curriculum and competencies that match industry needs.” This certified internship program is expected to continue to improve, both in the number of participating students and in the quality of its implementation, in order to prepare students who are ready to compete in the industrial world.
