The Food Technology Lecturers Team of Institut Teknologi Sumatera Conducted Nutrition Education and Health Examination for the Elderly at Panti Wreda Griya Nugraha

Bandar Lampung, November 17, 2025 — The lecturers and students of the Food Technology Study Program at Institut Teknologi Sumatera (ITERA) carried out a Community Service (PkM) activity in the form of nutrition education and health checks for the elderly at Panti Wreda Griya Nugraha, Sukadana Ham, Tanjung Karang, Bandar Lampung. This Panti Wreda is managed by the Suster Hati Kudus (HK) and serves as a residence for a number of elderly people who need continuous health assistance.

The PkM activity used the theme “Health Monitoring and Nutrition Education for the Elderly at Panti Wreda Griya Nugraha Bandar Lampung”, with the aim of increasing understanding of healthy lifestyle patterns and balanced nutritional intake in old age. The education material was provided by the lecturers team, which emphasized the importance of choosing nutritious food, regulating meal portions, daily fluid needs, and managing general health conditions to maintain the quality of life of the elderly.

Apart from nutrition education, the PkM team also carried out health checks that included blood sugar, cholesterol, uric acid, blood pressure, height, and weight measurements. This examination was performed as an early detection effort against the risk of non-communicable diseases that commonly occur in the elderly group.

This community service activity was funded by the Internal Funding of ITERA through the Community Learning and Service Program (LKPM) for the 2025 Fiscal Year. The implementing team was led by Hesti Ayuningtyas Pangastuti, M.Sc, with members Okti Ruenda, M.T.P and Syahrizal Nasution, M.Si, who were all lecturers of the Food Technology Study Program at ITERA.

The PkM at Panti Wreda Griya Nugraha was carried out through several series of visits. Previously, in September, the lecturers and students—Maudy Rachmawati Dwi Hansari, Aprilia Kurnianingsih, Devitasari, Alya Maysha Safina, and S. Tahsya Manalu—had also conducted a joint sports activity that is routinely carried out every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday. This program was designed to maintain the physical fitness of the elderly while strengthening the closeness between the PkM team and the panti residents.

Through this series of activities, it is hoped that the elderly can obtain real benefits in maintaining their health, increasing nutritional knowledge, and living a healthier lifestyle. The Food Technology Study Program at ITERA is committed to continuing to provide real contributions to the community through sustainable empowerment activities.
