Itera Lecturers and Students Develop Fish-Based Snacks in Pringsewu

Lecturers and students of Food Technology, Sumatra Institute of Technology (Itera) conducted Community Service (PkM). This PkM aims to develop fish-based snacks at the Cikisa Gading Utara Fish Processing Group. The activity was held in Pekon Gadingrejo Utara, Gadingrejo District, Pringsewu Regency on Sunday, 28 August 2022. The participants were members of the Women Farmers Group (KWT) in the Pekon.

Wildan Suhartini, an Itera lecturer, explained the importance of developing healthy snacks in Pringsewu. Fishery products, such as rebon (small shrimp) and kiter fish, were chosen because they have a distinctive flavor and are high in protein. “We chose rebon and kiter fish as snacks because they have a distinctive flavor and are also healthy,” Wildan stated.

Representing the head of the Pekon, Mr. Ferry Baharamsyar welcomed this activity. He hoped it would be sustainable and said they are ready to receive visits from Itera lecturers and students. “We are ready to welcome the Itera team whenever they wish to visit our Pekon,” he concluded.

This activity also involved the Pringsewu Regency Fisheries Office. This is because Cikisa is a group fostered by that Office that still requires business development. Rofi Raohati Arsyad, the local extension officer, hopes this group can continue to develop its business after this activity. She also hopes that the Cikisa Group can eventually produce a flagship food product in Pringsewu.

This activity was funded through the Itera 2022 PkM Grant organized by the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) Itera.
