Students of the ITERA Food Technology Study Program appeared very enthusiastic in participating in a scientific discussion program organized in cooperation between the Food Technology Study Program and the ITERA Pharmacy Study Program (30/03/2021).
The scientific discussion themed “Food-Drug Interactions” was held to give students the opportunity to deepen their exploration of applying food science to other related disciplines. The discussion was opened with a warm welcome by the Head of the ITERA Food Technology Study Program, Hesti A. Pangastuti S.T.P M.Sc. The discussion was then preceded by brief presentations from two speakers from each study program. The speakers involved in this discussion were representatives of ITERA’s proud lecturers. The food-related material was delivered by Syahrizal Nasution S.Pt M.Si (Lecturer of the Food Technology Study Program – Food Microbiology and Biotechnology), while the pharmacy-related material was delivered by apt. Winni Nur Auli M.S.Farm. The achievements of both are well known among the ITERA academic community.
The material presented this morning successfully stimulated students’ curiosity about the knowledge they have learned during lectures. This was evident from the large number of questions asked by the participants. The topic, a combination of food and pharmacy knowledge, was chosen because it is considered a topic commonly discussed in people’s daily lives.
By participating in this scientific discussion, students are expected to play an active role in passing on the information obtained to the surrounding community and to be able to correct the veracity of information circulating in society. Participants asked many questions to validate information they encounter both in their families and in the wider community.
Although this scientific discussion was held online, two-way interaction still took place systematically and without significant obstacles. It is unfortunate that the discussion was held within a rather limited time. Participants continued to actively ask questions until near the end of the event, even after extra time was given to accommodate the participants’ great curiosity and enthusiasm. Hopefully, activities like this can be held again soon with other interesting themes.
