On 12 October 2024, in the context of commemorating World Food Day, the Food Technology Students Association (HIMATEPA) Ganasarkara ITERA held Studium Generale Wonderfoody 2024 with the theme “Sustainability of Food Security through the Utilization of Local Commodities”. This event was the result of collaboration between HIMATEPA’s working program, namely Wonderfoody, and the Food Technology Study Program at Institut Teknologi Sumatera, which together aimed to increase students’ awareness and understanding of food security, especially in the context of utilizing local commodities.
This theme was raised with the aim of providing deep understanding of how local commodities actually have great potential in maintaining food security but their innovation is still not widely known or utilized by the public. Food security is one of the increasingly urgent issues in the era of globalization and climate change, so it is important for the younger generation, especially students, to understand and study innovative solutions in utilizing local resources to address this challenge.
The Event studium generale invited two inspirational speakers in the food business field, namely Mrs. Isna Lianti, who is the Owner of Cikwo Kuliner Lampung, and Mr. Muhammad Andre Irawan, who is the Owner of Irawanchips. The two speakers shared insights and their experience in the culinary business field by discussing various local food products, from production to distribution, and how local commodities can become one key to ensuring sustainable food availability in the future. The participants present had the opportunity to interact directly with the two speakers by asking questions regarding the material presented by the two speakers.
In this studium generale, there were more than 200 attendees who came from ITERA students from various study programs. The studium generale participants were given understanding about traditional Lampung food, namely seruit, gulai taboh, pandap, buak tat, kacang tujin and others. In addition, participants also received material on how to carry out a business path that can be done as a student to produce one’s own pocket money from selling. This event attracted the attention of many students, both from the Food Technology Study Program and from other study programs, to learn more about topics relevant to the current condition, which is a mix of digital and innovative ideas that can motivate participants to care about local commodities.
Overall, this event succeeded in creating an atmosphere full of learning and productive discussion spirit. HIMATEPA and the Food Technology Study Program at ITERA hope that through this activity, students can increasingly realize the importance of their role in maintaining and developing food security, especially by maximizing the potential of existing local commodities.
