Lampung – On Friday (24/7/20) and Saturday (25/7/20), lecturers of the Food Technology Study Program of Sumatra Institute of Technology (ITERA) had the opportunity to conduct a field survey as part of the Local Potential Development Program in Liwa, West Lampung Regency, and Krui, West Pesisir Regency, Lampung Province. This activity was initiated by the Study Program to explore the local potential in both areas, which will later be developed through research, community service, Internships, Student Community Service (KKN), and the Fostered Village program.

On the first occasion of this field survey, the potential of Lampung coffee was the first to be studied in both areas. In Liwa, the group of lecturers had the opportunity to visit a local coffee farmer, the family of Mr. Sopian. The lecturers were warmly welcomed with a very distinctive coffee, traditionally processed by the farmer himself. On this occasion, the lecturers talked and discussed developments and problems related to coffee production from upstream to downstream.
Besides visiting the farmer, the group also took the time to stop by the Kopi AAS outlet owned by CV AKL to enjoy coffee and talk with CV AKL employees about the company’s coffee processing.
The survey continued to Krui, West Pesisir. In Krui, the group of Food Technology Study Program lecturers visited a coffee roasting entrepreneur, Mowning Coffee. Meeting Mr. Sofyan, a coffee roaster, the group gathered information on the development of modern coffee processing businesses in the community, particularly in Krui.
The field survey in the local potential development program went smoothly. This activity can serve as a starting point for the study program to contribute to solving problems in the community and to efforts to develop local food products, particularly in Lampung. (VF/HAP)
