The guest lecture held on Wednesday, 5 April 2023, featured a speaker from Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Associate Professor Dr. Nurul Huda. In the guest lecture, Dr. Nurul Huda discussed a very important topic, namely “Packaging, Labeling, Display, and Marketing Strategy for Fish Products”.
This guest lecture was attended by students from the Fish and Meat Processing Technology class who came from the Study Program Food Technology at Institut Teknologi Sumatera (ITERA) and several other study programs. The topic presented by Dr. Nurul Huda is very relevant to their study program, because fish processing is one of the competencies that must be mastered by Food Technology students.
In this guest lecture, Dr. Nurul Huda emphasized the importance of packaging for fish products because fish is one of the products that is very easy to damage. Therefore, proper fish handling through correct packaging becomes the key to maintaining the quality and safety of fish products.
Dr. Nurul Huda also explained that each different fish category will be handled and packaged differently. The type, quality, and packaging method used are very important in preserving quality fish. Good packaging can make fish products stay fresh and last longer.
Besides packaging, Dr. Nurul Huda also discussed fish product labeling and display, which are important in the fish product marketing strategy. Good labeling will make it easier for consumers to choose the desired fish products. Attractive fish product display can also increase consumer interest in buying the product.
This guest lecture provides very valuable insight for Fish and Meat Processing Technology students at ITERA and other study programs that attended this guest lecture. It is hoped that through this guest lecture, students can broaden their knowledge of fish processing and can improve their skills in packaging, labeling, display, and fish product marketing strategy.
