Enhancing Skills, ITERA Food Technology Holds Good Laboratory Practice Training

Lampung – The Food Technology Study Program of Sumatra Institute of Technology (ITERA), in collaboration with PT. LabMania Indonesia in Bekasi, held an online training on the topic “Good Laboratory Practice (GLP)” on Monday (6/7). The event was attended by around 150 participants consisting of lecturers, researchers, lab technicians, students, and the general public. The GLP training invited Mr. Ivan Sarifudin, a BNSP-certified instructor and SR Laboratory Journey Partner at LabMania, as the speaker.

The event opened with a screening of the ITERA profile video and an introduction to PT LabMania Indonesia. The event was then divided into two sessions: the first session was a presentation of material by the speaker, and the second session was a discussion between the participants and the speaker.

This Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) training covered preparation and important matters related to work safety when working in the laboratory. Some of the material provided included proper handling and storage of chemicals, identification of hazards in the use of chemicals in the laboratory, handling of incompatible chemicals, and proper labeling techniques. Participants in this training are expected to be able to apply proper laboratory techniques.

In the second session, the training participants were very enthusiastic in asking questions related to the material provided by the speaker. Many participants commented that the material from this training was very useful for lecturers, researchers, lab technicians, and students who work directly in the laboratory. This is especially so for students who, in their learning process, must take part in laboratory practicums, where they must comply with laboratory occupational health and safety SOPs to avoid work accidents; furthermore, the knowledge they gain can benefit students once they enter the working world. For lecturers, researchers, and lab technicians, the training is also useful for understanding and applying the concept of laboratory standardization for laboratory quality assurance. One example of its application is the concept of Preventive Maintenance in the use of laboratory materials and equipment. During the training, the event was also enlivened with a prize quiz and an IG challenge for training participants themed on laboratory work safety. This training is expected to provide additional insight into the concept of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).
