Lampung – Food Technology Students of Institut Teknologi Sumatera (ITERA) presented their final project for the Introduction to Food Technology course on Monday (8/10). The final project involved creating simple food product innovations. The food products created by these 1st-semester students included fermented banana (tape pisang), rainbow banana churros, chocolate mango sticks, potato serundeng, rice pempek, banana getuk, watermelon rind sponge cake, pineapple nuggets, chocolate-cheese lemet, and dragon fruit peel jam.

Generally, the students’ enthusiasm for creating these food product innovations was driven by the abundance of agricultural resources that are not optimally processed by the community. Pineapples and bananas are several agricultural commodities in Lampung that have excellent potential for management. Through innovation, the selling price of food products will increase, which will also improve community welfare.

The Introduction to Food Technology course covers the fundamentals of food science and technology. This course is part of the Joint Preparation Stage (TPB). TPB is a mandatory learning stage for new students of Institut Teknologi Sumatera and is conducted over 2 semesters.
