Lecturers of Food Technology at Sumatra Institute of Technology provided online training on career planning for recipients of the SMART Scholarship at the State Islamic Institute (IAIN) Fattuhul Muluk Jayapura on Friday, 8 January 2021. Today, career planning is very important to understand from an early age. Career planning is not merely a desired aspiration but must also be planned well. Good career planning must be based on an understanding of each person’s potential, talents, and interests, then maximizing the support system from family, the campus environment, and the SMART scholarship they receive from the Baitul Maal Foundation of Bank Rakyat Indonesia (YBM BRI) Jayapura Regional Office. Ilham Marvie, the head of the community service TEAM, provided the training based on an online talent test using the ST-30 method. All participants practiced preparing a career plan based on the talent test to achieve their aspirations, whether as Academics, Professionals, Entrepreneurs, or in social work.
One participant, Hasan, showed his enthusiasm by sharing his career plan to become an entrepreneur by optimizing the natural resource potential of his hometown on Seram Island, Maluku Province, namely spices and fishery products. “After receiving this training, I plan to become an entrepreneur by learning how to process and optimize the potential of these spices and fishery products, using the knowledge I learned from the lecturers on campus,” said Hasan when asked what career plan he wanted to make. “This training is very appropriate to be given to students who are now in their 4th semester of study,” said Ilham Artian, the manager of the YBM BRI Jayapura regional office.
Furthermore, the career plans made by the participants will be mentored by other ITERA lecturers, namely Zada agna thalita and Tefur nur rohman. ITERA Food Technology students, namely mayang and lutfi, were also involved in sharing their experiences in making career plans based on the Food Technology knowledge they are currently studying. This training is expected to be a tangible form of ITERA’s contribution to Indonesia, especially in developing the human resources of youth in Jayapura.
