SOUTH LAMPUNG (27/02/2021) – The Food Technology Study Program of Sumatra Institute of Technology (ITERA) held a Studium Generale themed “Nutritious Food and Students’ Mental Health in the Pandemic Era” on Saturday, 27 February 2021. The seminar was conducted via the Zoom platform . The Coordinator of the ITERA Food Technology Study Program, Hesti A. Pangastuti S.TP., M.Sc, stated in her remarks that it is very important to be aware of one’s own mental health because it is our capital for surviving, especially during this pandemic.

This Studium Generale featured two speakers, namely dr. Putri Sakti Dwi Permanasari, M.Gizi, sp.GK and Anggi Mayangsari, M.Psi., Psychologist. Both speakers are experts or specialists in nutritious food and mental health. “There is a relationship between the quality of our daily nutritional intake and our mental health. So of course we must consume food with balanced nutrition and in exactly the right portions or doses, so that our mental and physical health remain good and optimal in the long term,” said Putri in the first session. Putri also explained that the best nutritional intake is Whole Food, found in all foods that have not undergone further processing like junk food.

The second session was delivered by Anggi Mayangsari, titled “Mental Health in Humans”. Anggi stated that depression and anxiety are the mental health problems most commonly experienced by students, caused by much worry and fear about what will happen next. Anggi also explained that mental health not always being optimal is normal, just as the body sometimes feels tired or unwell. Ways to maintain our mental health are by being able to know ourselves, loving ourselves, and having time for ‘me time’.
This studium generale was also attended by students from different institutions and universities, with a total of more than 600 registrants. This shows that students are interested in learning and understanding the importance of nutritional intake and mental health. It is hoped that students can be more aware and understand how to keep their physical and mental condition healthy and optimal. (MRR)
